What are Dentures?

Dentures have come a long way since your granny started wearing them. Modern dentures are natural-looking artificial teeth and gums formed to your mouth that have the aesthetic and function of real teeth. They are not an all-or-nothing proposition either. Dentures can replace all of your teeth, an entire row of top or bottom teeth, or just a few missing teeth.

When your surrounding teeth are not strong enough to support another type of dental appliance or your jaw makes implants unfeasible, dentures are a beautiful, reliable replacement.

Treatment Benefits of Dentures

Several dental treatments replace missing teeth, including dental bridges and implants. Dentures are an excellent option as they come with certain benefits, including:

Dentures from an Award-Winning Cosmetic Dental Practice

We want you to keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. However, if your teeth are not healthy, sometimes replacing sickly natural teeth with gorgeous, functional dentures is best for your smile.

As a denture patient at Riveredge, our attention to detail and skilled design of your new dentures help boost your confidence. At the end of treatment, you will leave with a gorgeous set of natural-looking teeth that stay secure day in and day out.

FAQs About Dentures

Patients often have questions about dentures. Here are some of the most common queries we receive about having dentures:

Will I be able to eat with confidence while wearing dentures?
Yes, with practise, you can eat most foods. If you are new to wearing dentures, eat soft foods or liquid meals and gradually transition to solid foods. Dentures from Riveredge fit snugly, so you can eat and speak without the mishaps that happen with ill-fitting dentures.
How do I clean my dentures?
Remove your dentures and gently clean them with a soft toothbrush and recommended denture paste. While your dentures are out, clean your natural gums, too.
Will dentures affect the way I speak?
New dentures can make small changes to how you speak with minor lisps, slurring, or other alterations – but this is temporary. Your mouth muscles need to adjust to the dentures, and with practise, you will adapt very quickly and return to your original speech patterns in no time.
Can I sleep with my dentures in?
Of course you can, but we recommend you still clean your gums and occasionally leave the dentures out to give your gums a rest. When not wearing your dentures, submerge them in warm (not hot) water to prevent them from drying out and warping.
How long do dentures last?
With proper care, dentures last five years or more. Of course, mouths change over the years, so you will need occasional denture adjustments to ensure the right fit and feel.
